The “Paris intensive seminar” of the Executive MBA Global Fashion Management (GFM) took place from March 30th to April 8th 2009. 46 students and lecturers of the 2008-2009 GFM class, from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT - New York), the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPU ) and the IFM, came together in Paris for a high-level seminar coordinated by Véronique Schilling, who heads up the program. The participants are from a number of countries (United States, China, France, India, Brazil, Germany, Turkey, Korea, Thailand...), and were given the opportunity to explore and gain a better understanding of the economic stakes of the sector, the current events in fashion and luxury brand management and the specifics of France on the international fashion stage.

The seminar included contributions from big names in the sector including Didier Grumbach (President of the Fédération de la Couture, du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode), Sidney Toledano (PDG of Christian Dior Couture), Guillaume de Seynes (Hermès International), Floriane de Saint Pierre (Floriane de Saint Pierre & Associés), Philippe Picaud (Head of design at Oxylane, the new identity of the Decathlon groups), and Dominique Chatelin (President of FDI Logbox)…

Other highlights :

- the trip to Chanel rue Cambon, with a talk from Bruno Pavlovsky (President of the fashion division at Chanel), to Rue du Mail par Martine Sitbon, with a talk by Marc Ascoli (Head of Image) and to the Cabinet Alberto Pinto, led with brio by Benoit Chottin (GFM2009) much to the delight of his classmates.

- conferences on luxury with the American journalist Dana Thomas who published Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster (Penguin Press), in 2007, available in French from éditions des Arènes (Luxe & Co, Comment les marques ont tué le luxe, mai 2008) and Berta de Pablos, Head of Marketing & Design at Boucheron, along with Bertrand Richez, a Consultant in Strategic Design, both graduates from the IFM’s Executive MBA.

- a round-table discussion with Nathalie Ruelle (IFM) and young ethical fashion entrepreneurs: Ideo, Tudo Bom and Ethical Fashion Show.

-a case-study on Lectra, in collaboration with the company and notably the CEO Daniel Harari. The aim of the workshop with groups of mixed nationalities was to recommend a marketing place for Lectra software (Modaris Expert) on an international level.

- and contribution from experts including Stéphane Wargnier, Florence Müller, Luca Marchetti and Franc’Pairon.

The GFM seminars take place respectively New York, Paris and Hong Kong. Students from the 2008 class of the Executive MBA Global Fashion Management were recently in New York (September 2008), and in Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Shanghai at the end of November 2008.
