Dominique Jacomet (DG IFM) and Henri Griffon, président de l'UNIFA, lors de la signature de la convention à l’IFM (june 19th).
On Friday June 19th, the IFM signed an agreement with the French furniture industry outlining their cooperation as part of the « Design/Lifestyle » option in the IFM’s fashion & design management postgraduate program. The institutions that signed the agreement include the IFM, the VIA(1), the UNIFA(2), the CODIFA(3) and the IPEA(4).
This option is aimed at students with design, marketing, business and engineering backgrounds.
The objectives of the course are:
-to train future executives for production and retail companies in the home interiors/gardens sector (furniture, lighting, interior decoration, technological products, gardens, DIY);
-to reinforce skills in design management and marketing in a sector that is currently undergoing a sea-change.
The course is based around two main themes.
The first is a panorama of the “lifestyle” sector with a focus on the broad trends in design in France and abroad, the way they are evolving, as well as an examination of market structure and the companies involved.
The second theme, “design management, innovation and the creative process”, deals with how to manage innovation and the construction and organization of the product range on offer. It also highlights the notions of sustainable development and eco-design.
This program includes 80 hours teaching and it began last February with a class of 28 students. The course relies on expertise from two sources: that of the IFM on the one hand, in terms of third level training and, on the other, that of the VIA in terms of prospective analysis and design aid and the IPEA for the study and analysis of markets in this sector.
This course is a response to the impetus from the Ministère de l’Economie, de l’Industrie et de l’Emploi to create synergies across sectors to support the design industry.
The institutions that signed the agreement :
(1) VIA, Valorisation de l’innovation dans l’ameublement (Supporting innovation in furniture)
(2) UNIFA, Union nationale des industries françaises de l’ameublement (National furniture industries union)
(3) CODIFA, Comité de développement des industries françaises de l’ameublement (Development committee for French furniture industries)
(4) IPEA, Institut de promotion des études de l’ameublement (Institution for promotion and surveys in the furniture sector)
