When Yves Saint Laurent said: « I am the last grand couturier », was he, in his own way, predicting the death of haute couture, and was it arrogance or a simple lack of false humility?
Laurent Cotta will examine Yves Saint Laurent's place in the history of fashion, the real reasons for holding a retrospective in the musée des Beaux-arts and not in a fashion museum, while emphasising the constitution of his own identity, notably using the heritage of Christian Dior and Coco Chanel, perhaps as a synthesis of fashion and style.
Laurent Cotta is in charge of contemporary design at the musée Galliera and teaches at the Ecole du Louvre.
