TEACHING

I. Common-core syllabus

The syllabus consists of 7 teaching groups:

• Knowledge and understanding of the world of design
• Fashion and design systems
• Technical understanding of clothing, material and leather
• Design companies and applied management
• Fashion marketing
• Management and globalization
• Business strategies

The syllabus is composed of compulsory and elective courses.

A. Compulsory courses: 29 courses, followed by the entire student body.

B. Elective courses: 20 "à la carte" courses (including 1 by the Université Paris IV Sorbonne, and the other by l’ENSCI (École Supérieure de Création Industrielle). The elective courses allow each student to create their own course "recipe" according to their professional aspirations. Each student chooses minimum 8 elective courses, maximum 9. The student is then obligated to validate 7.

II. Options

There are two options to pick from, and one of these options to validate:

• Option Perfumes & Cosmetics
• Option Design & Lifestyle

Each option equals to about 70 hours of class. They take place during the month of February, during which the usual syllabus is interrupted. Each option is enclosed by a company which takes on the role adapted to a specific case study :
- L'Oréal Division Luxury Products for the Perfume & Cosmetics option
- Renault Design for the Design & Lifestyle option

III. Study Trip (optional)

The IFM, in partnership with MAFED (SDA Bocconi) in Milan and l'ISEM in Madrid, propose to any interested student a 3 day study trip to one of these institutions. This trip will take the shape of a class and company visit. Please note that the IFM takes charge of the classes and visits expenses only. The transport and stay expenses are entirely the student's responsibility.

THE WORKSHOPS

The workshops are group exercises that reunite students over problematic subjects. They notably relate to the following :
- General company strategy
- Marketing strategy
- The brand
- Creation...

There are two types of workshops :

1. Management and Design Workshop: The Fashion & Design Management Postgraduate Program students have three opportunities to work with design students from other programs.
This is the opportunity for the students from the Design Postgraduate Program (Fashion and Accessory) to meet with the students from the Fashion & Design Management Postgraduate Program. There are two of these workshops, both of which are compulsory.
There is another workshop in collaboration with the design students from ENSCI (Ecole Supérieure de Création Industrielle) for the students from the Fashion & Design Management Postgraduate Program who wish to participate.

2. Management Workshop: This workshop relates only to the students from the Fashion & Design Management Postgraduate Program.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR

This seminar has for objective to help students define their professional project with the use of several tools: professional course presentation, curriculum workshop.

BRINGING UP STANDARDS

Accounting, marketing and IT classes are compulsory for all students that have not attended these subjects during their past schooling.

FINAL REPORT

Students should define their Final Report theme in relation to their professional objectives. This final exercise is supervised by a report manager and results in a written report in June and during an oral presentation in July. This last presentation takes place in front of a jury made up of the report manager, an IFM professor, and an expert or professional chosen by the report manager in relation to the chosen subject.

COMPANY MISSION

The Recruitment and Career Advising Department accompanies students along their schooling in order to help them define and build their professional projects.

A company mission of 3 months minimum and maximum 6 is scheduled end of year. It forges real professional experience and concretizes the student's know-how.

The student is required to write a company mission essay and prepare an oral presentation in front of the jury made up of an IMF teaching staff member and of the company mission tutor.

Work and internship offers are distributed by the IFM Recruitment and Career Advising Department.
