Our teaching approach is based on the following values:
1. Humanism and an open mind
The teaching highlights a multicultural and multidisciplinary approach to fashion, luxury goods and the creative industries.
The IFM's « positive experience » is a concept that is dear to the institute, and indeed one of the greatest assets of the IFM is the way it breaks down the barriers between very varied profiles, cultures and backgrounds. This leads to close bonds between students, teachers and professionals from many sectors.
The accent is placed on the importance of a high level of general artistic knowledge and culture which is essential for anyone wishing to work in the sector and that can be enriched by all of the cultural resources available in Paris.
2. The alliance of theory and practice
The IFM's teaching staff and guest lecturers are totally approachable and pass on to the students the fruits of the experience and skills acquired throughout their careers, their studies and their research.
Participation from outside experts and fashion professionals
These are true sharing experiences; these interventions are a chance for the students to meet with the people on the ground, fashion professionals and the personalities from the fashion, design and luxury sectors. They provide unique and privileged moments for the students with those who make and live fashion and industrial design.
Their participation puts the teaching of the IFM in close contact with the business and its evolution.
There are regular accompanied and commented visits to design workshops, production centers, specialized logistic centers and professional trade fairs.
The work experience program is the icing on the cake for this progressive immersion/insertion in the professional world.
.
3. An educational approach centered on the development of the personality
In order to encourage a spirit of initiative and a creative approach to professional situations, workshops are organized in addition to the classes and the interventions from professionals.
The workshops
These workshops can be individual or in a group, and they make the students work on real-life case studies proposed by companies. This work usually ends with a presentation in front of the managers of the companies and a post-presentation de-briefing.
The teaching environment is open, thus encouraging the development of a critical sensibility and is a source of intellectual and academic satisfaction for the students.
