THE INSTITUT FRANCAIS DE LA MODE
The Institut Français de la Mode
is the center in France for training.
research and expertise in the fashion-design and creative industries.
It was set up on 1986 by the French Ministry of Industry
in tandem with textile and fashion professionals and has since become a national
and international reference for students, companies and professionals.
The aim of the IFM is to accompany the development of the fashion
and design industries by reinforcing skills and anticipating the changes to come.
The IFM is a place of artistic expression and professional exchange
and encounters whose vocation is to boost creation and innovation within industry
and to enable Parisian and French "fashion and design" to shine forth.
An institute born from the will
to bring together industry and design
The IFM is a place where professions and skills intermingle
and, as such, it participates in the development and competitiveness
of the fashion and design industries.
The IFM is a nonprofit making association under the aegis
of the Industry Section and has positioned itself as one of the main
motors behind the integration of design in industry in France.
The IFM works in a broad sector that includes: fashion, textiles,
luxury goods, accessories, design, household goods, perfumes
and cosmetics... and on a more general level all of the sectors
with a high level of creative added value, that are highly
influenced by trends and fashion and greatly concerned with
globalization.
On September 19th 2006, the administrators of the Conférence des Grandes Écoles decided unanimously to approve the admission of the IFM as Member of the Conférence des Grandes Écoles ("Membre Correspondant").
The Conférence des Grandes Écoles is an association of engineering, management and higher level “Grandes Écoles” that share a strict selection process, close links to business and economics and varied and wide-ranging courses.
“Membre Correspondant” of the Conférence des Grandes Écoles means the IFM is recognized for the quality of its teaching and the close links it maintains with academic research and the business world.
For example the ENA, ENSCI and the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris are also “Membre Correspondant” of the Conférence des Grandes Écoles.
An Institute in the heart of Paris
The IFM is located in the heart of Paris, the fashion, artistic
and cultural capital of the world. Paris is at the crossroads
for design worldwide and it is here that one comes to see,
show, discover, test, find and compare new designs.
Paris is an active, creative and cosmopolitan town, a veritable
laboratory for ideas that bursts with creativity. It is the
city one comes to for fashion, energy and a unique range of
products and brands.
Paris occupies a strategic position in the fashion world thanks
to the shows, designers, trade fairs, buyers, companies, press,
and the Parisian and international public to be found here.
The IFM contributes to the dynamism, attraction and influence
of Paris as a fashion capital thanks to its uniquely central
location.
