An IFM alumnus artist exhibiting in New York

New York City's parks are displaying works by young artists including Caroline Bergonzi, on show at Riverside Park and Van Cortlandt. Put into place at the end of June, these works will remain on view to the public for a year.

Originally from Monaco, passionate about couture from childhood onwards, Caroline Bergonzi is an all-rounder artist: painter, sculptor and jewellery designer, she works with metal as well as oil paints.

Following her studies in business, Caroline Bergonzi was destined to a successful career in marketing when she joined IFM's Management, Fashion Design and Luxury Program. There, in contact with creative and enthusiastic individuals, she was able to allow her artistic flair to run wild. During a study trip to China as part of her course, she also discovered a true passion for Asian cultures and spirituality, influences seen later in her artwork. Fascinated by fashion, its craftsmen and its couturiers, she draws inspiration from Lesage embroideries or Christian Lacroix's work.

Graduated in 1996, she left for New York on a two-week mission in photo design and settled there for good. Attracted by painting, she initially produced oil portraits, which, by her own admission, resemble fashion photographs, and then turned to other art forms, metal sculpture in particular.

Spotted by an artists' residence, she is one of 7 artists chosen to design a series of monumental works shown in New York's public gardens. Caroline's work, entitled Metamorphosis, is a giant metal and bronze phoenix that delicately unfolds its wings towards Hudson River.
